Dharmapālas are a deities who protect the Buddist Law and defend all flesh. Though many deities have a terrifying appearance and countenance, they are guardians of the pantheon, and it means that they are embodiments of compassion by the role of a blind fury for the benefit of sentient beings and nirvana.


持国天は天部の一神。前持國天の裔。

Dhṛtarāṣṭra is the Divine of the Four Heavenly Kings. Deities have the concept of death as is the case with human like us. They are not necessarily eternal. They might give the appearance to be eternal at first glance. But Deities also have gone through millennia of life and death. They say "go over my dead body".

毘沙門天は天部の一神。四天王を抜け、独尊となった姿をいう。
蜈蚣を眷族とする。

Vaiśravaṇa is the Divine of deities. She is called and is known familiarly as "Bishamonten" in Japan. She used to be a premier general of the Four Heavenly Kings. But after she seceded from there, she turned Bishamonten in Japanese Buddhism. She keeps a larger centipede as a guardian and devotes a lot of attention to her.
